Lists of ingredients:

  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
    2 Tablespoons butter
    2 cups sliced yellow onion
    ¼ teaspoon salt
    ¼ teaspoon black pepper
2 cans (14.5 ounces each) Green Giant® Kitchen Sliced Green Beans, drained

STEPS

1 Heat olive oil and butter over medium in a large skillet. Add onions, salt and pepper. Cook for 15 minutes, stirring regularly until onions are deep golden brown. Transfer ½ cups onions to a bowl and cover to keep warm.
2 Add green beans to skillet; sauté for 4-5 minutes until warmed.
3 Transfer green beans to a serving plate and top with caramelized onions.

TIPS & TRICKS

You can make the caramelized onions ahead of time, then transfer to an airtight container and store them in the fridge. At serving time, warm the onions in the microwave before proceeding with step 2.

For a colorful garnish that’s a delicious complement to the green beans and onions, slice red, yellow and orange cherry tomatoes in half, toss them with olive oil and salt, and scatter them around the edge of the serving platter or bowl.

You can also garnish the beans and onions with toasted sliced almonds.

Serve Sautéed Green Beans with Caramelized Onions with steak, chicken or seafood. If you have leftovers, you can use them as a filling for an omelet.
