Green Giant product(s) used: Green Giant® Asparagus Spears Extra Long

Lists of ingredients:

  • 5 ounces chèvre goat cheese, softened at room temperature
    1 large egg
    ¼ cup crème fraîche
    ¼ cup chopped green onion
    ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    ¼ teaspoon cracked black pepper
1 sheet of store-bought puff pastry, thawed
1 can (15 ounce) Green Giant® Asparagus Spears Extra Long, drained and patted dry

    For brushing:
    1 large egg, beaten

STEPS

1 Preheat oven to 400ºF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a small bowl, whisk together goat cheese, egg, crème fraîche, green onion, garlic powder, and black pepper until smooth.
2 Spread puff pastry dough on baking sheet. Top puff pastry with goat cheese mixture, leaving 1-inch around the border. Fold in edges of puff pastry. Brush the border of the tart with beaten egg. Bake for 8 minutes.
3 While tart is baking, gently blot excess moisture from asparagus with paper towel.
4 Carefully remove tart from oven and top with asparagus in a single row. Return to oven for 8-10 minutes longer, until crust is flaky and golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes before slicing into 8 squares.

TIPS & TRICKS

While the premade puff pastry should be a breeze to work with when making these goat cheese tarts, there are a few tricks to know. First, keep the puff pastry cold so it’s easier to handle. Also, avoid overworking or overloading the dough with extra ingredients to help keep the puff pastry light and crisp – just the way you want it!
